Not every job starts with a fix.
Sometimes, it all begins with an open space, a fresh blueprint, and a bold idea.
Just last month, Fix Commercial Appliance took on a complete walk-in cooler install for a busy gas station convenience store near Charlotte, NC. This wasn’t a repair or an upgrade — there was nothing there to begin with. No cooler, no wiring, no existing structure.
We were brought in to build a brand-new, commercial-grade refrigeration system from scratch — one designed to run around the clock, save energy, and meet tough food safety standards.
🏗️ The Build: From Concrete Slab to Cold Storage
We kicked things off with careful site prep — leveling the floor, marking out where weight would be supported, and mapping out drains to control airflow and manage condensation.
After getting everything signed off, our team got to work building. We installed insulated wall panels, sealed the ceiling, and used USDA-approved insulation and vapor barriers to lock in long-term temperature stability.
Every joint and seam was sealed tight to prevent air leaks and maximize energy efficiency.
⚙️ The System: Engineered for nonstop commercial operation
With the structure complete, we moved on to the mechanics — installing a high-efficiency condensing unit and evaporator. Everything was wired into brand-new electrical and plumbing systems, all connected to the store’s main grid.
This cooler isn’t just powerful — it’s smart. We added remote temperature monitoring, automatic defrost cycles, and an emergency override system.
Before turning it on, we ran a full round of pressure, leak, and load testing to make sure it could handle real-world demand — especially during North Carolina’s hot summers.
🕓 The Challenge: Keep the Store Running
Here’s the kicker — the store stayed open the entire time. No shutdowns. No sales lost.
Our team worked split shifts — early mornings and late nights — so shoppers never had to step around construction or miss out on service.
Every part of the build was carefully timed around store hours, showing that even major installations don’t have to stop your business in its tracks.
✅ The Result: A Cooler That Works Hard
What started as bare concrete is now a fully functioning, energy-efficient walk-in cooler. It’s stocked, it’s quiet, and it’s running exactly as it should — keeping drinks cold and perishables fresh.
Another North Carolina store is now equipped with a top-tier refrigeration system, custom-built to last — and backed by the pros at Fix Commercial Appliance.
